Top 4 Tips for Getting Your Pup to Sit Still for Photographs
Posted on July 18, 2016 by iceprints
You have had ornaments, glasses, and ice slates made of everyone in the family at Ice Prints and love them. The only part of your family that you haven’t been able to get any shots of to send in is your family pet. Face it, dogs are worse than children and very rarely do what you tell them to do. They are much more interested in sniffing around the flower bed or chasing the family cat around the yard than they are you wanting to get a picture to send in for an ice slate. With that being said, read on below for a few of the top tips to help you get your canine buddy to sit still for photographs.
Treats can be Your Best Friend (And His)
Most dogs love food, especially treats of any kind. Try teaching your pup to sit with these treats, even if you have to break out the treats that he loves, but that you only give on occasion. Never give the treat, unless he is sitting on his hind end the way he is supposed to be. Before long, the idea of a treat will have him eager to sit when you pull out your camera.
Use Noises to get His Attention
Sitting and relentlessly squeaking one of your dog’s toys to get his attention isn’t the way to go. He will soon get used to the toy, and the squeak and not pay you any attention at all. Instead, try hiding the squeaker from the toy in something else. You will get your dog’s attention, and probably an adorable head tilt for your photo, as he looks at you quizzically wondering where the noise came from. Use the noise you choose sparingly if you want your pet to pay attention instead of getting used to it and wandering off.
Practice and Patience Are Key
Remember, your pup is not going to just naturally sit still for you. You need to have patience that he will eventually sit still for that most coveted photo. It takes practice as well, so the more you work with your pup, the better he will be. Never be mean to your pup when trying to get him to sit still for a photo opp. Always have patience and be sure to give him encouragement and praise if you hope to succeed.
Use His Natural Element
Remember, even with pet’s candid pictures are better. Instead of trying to get the family dog to sit still, photograph him in his element. Sometimes, those candid shots can make the best pictures and before long you will have more than enough photos to send to Ice Prints for your collection!
These are just a few of the ideas that you can use to help get the gorgeous photos of the family pet you have always wanted. From using his natural element to giving him treats, remember patience and practice are the real keys to great pictures with your pet!
